MILWAUKEE - The MSOE women's tennis team dropped just one point in sweeping a pair of league opponents and setting a school record for wins in a season Saturday at McKinley Park.
The Raiders (8-3, 5-1 NACC) shut out Concordia Chicago 9-0 in the morning, then came back to defeat Alverno 8-1 in the afternoon.
In the opener, MSOE dropped just three games over the six contested matches in posting a dominating victory. The No 1 doubles pairing of senior Carly Grant and Sammy Soeder won 8-1 and freshmen Cierra Smith and Katie Clements won 8-0 at No. 2.
In singles play, Soeder at No. 2 and Clements at No. 4 each posted 6-0, 6-0 shutouts. Grant won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 and Smith posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3.
The Cougars forfeited points at No. 3 doubles, as well as No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Raiders fielded the same lineup against Alverno and handily defeated an Inferno squad which beat them twice last season, including 6-3 in the NACC Tournament. On this day, MSOE got off to a quick start with a 3-0 mark in doubles, 8-2 at No. 1 and 8-3 at No. 2.
Junior Cali Bonie and sophomore Kim Baffin posted an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Grant was victorious at No. 1 by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Soeder remained perfect on the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2. Clements followed suit at No. 4, 6-0, 6-3.
Senior Riya Chaudhari won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1, and sophomore Olivia Boden won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 position.
The only loss for MSOE on the day came at No. 3 singles and that match was pushed to three sets.
The team's eight wins this season are already a school record, breaking the mark of seven wins set by the 2008 team.
The Raiders will look to extend that record when they return to the court Tuesday at Edgewood.
