Raiders Split With Eagles In Midweek Matchup

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Fresh off a sweep of NACC rival Benedictine, MSOE softball hit the road for what might be their last non-conference matchup of the season against UW-La Crosse. The Raiders fought back from a small deficit to take game one but they couldn't ground the Eagles offense in game two, settling for a sweep on Wednesday afternoon.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 5
UW-La Crosse – 3

MSOE RAIDERS – 3
UW-La Crosse – 7

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (14-8) was faced with climbing out of an early 1-0 deficit against UW-La Crosse (15-10) in game one but quickly turned the tables with a productive fourth and fifth innings.
    • Caroline Fouras started things off with a two RBI single that plated Lauren Stefanczyk and Reagan Jordan in the fourth before Faith Matta scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch and Jocelyn Clodi brought Stefanczyk in to score once more to make it 4-1.
    • The Eagles drew closer with a run in their half of the fifth but Morgan Long offset that when her groundout plated Lexi Koepke in the sixth.
    • Sarah Grossman came on in relief to throw two scoreless innings, allowing her to pick up her second save of the season and earning starter Kennedy Lehn the win in the Raiders 5-3 victory.
  • Game Two
    • The opening inning of the second game of the day ended up costing the Red & White a chance at the sweep, however. A four run first followed by one in the second and two in the third put MSOE in a hole that was too big to climb out of.
    • The Raiders tried to mount a comeback with a three run top of the sixth that saw Long and Grace Brown tally RBIs, but it was nowhere near the seven runs that they needed to tie the game.
    • MSOE left eight runners on base and couldn't take full advantage of three La Crosse errors in a four run defeat.
RAIDER REMARKS
  • The Raiders' loss in game two was the first defeat they've suffered during the four game history between the two clubs.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will hop back into conference play when they take on Aurora on the road this weekend.
