Softball Upset By Stars To Begin NACC Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – MSOE softball began Thursday hoping for the easiest possible path to their third NACC tournament title since 2019 when they took on third seeded Dominican in their first game of the postseason. Unfortunately, their path will be anything but easy from here on out as they were upset by the Stars 3-2 on Thursday evening.

RESULTS
No. 3 Dominican – 3
No. 2 MSOE RAIDERS – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Things did not get off to a good start for second seeded MSOE (29-10) against third seeded Dominican (31-9) in the Raiders first game of the 2023 NACC tournament. Starter Kennedy Lehn ran into trouble in the first inning and allowed two Star runs to score on a double that found the left field gap.
  • The Red & White were able to even things up in the very next half inning, however. The Raiders were benefactors of two Dominican errors that plated both Grace Salaja and Faith Matta as the two teams headed to the second tied at 2-2.
  • The game winning tally was plated relatively early though when the Stars pushed a run across on a fielder's choice after a MSOE error of their own in the top of the third.
  • The Raiders managed four hits the rest of the way and ended the game with no extra base knocks in a 3-2 loss to send themselves to the elimination bracket for the rest of the tournament.
RAIDER REMARKS
  • The Raiders three game win streak in which they shutout the Stars in 19 straight innings came to an end with the loss. MSOE is now 3-2 in their last five games against Dominican.
  • The Red & White will now have to win at least four games to walk away with the 2023 NACC tournament title.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will resume play tomorrow morning against fifth seeded Benedictine in game five of the NACC tournament. The loser goes home contest will start at 10:30 am. If the Red & White defeat the Eagles, they will then move on to their second elimination game of the day at approximately 3:30 pm.
