PLYMOUTH, Wis. – MSOE softball was back in action a few days later than anticipated since their doubleheader against Lakeland on Sunday was pushed due to rain. The extra rest didn't hurt though as the Raiders took game one behind a stellar pitching performance before turning things over in game two to the bats who thumped the Muskies to complete the sweep.
RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Lakeland – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 12
Lakeland – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- MSOE (25-9, 17-3 NACC) had an old school pitchers duel on their hands in game one against Lakeland (13-19, 6-14 NACC). The two teams combined for just ten hits, and it was all zeroes up on the scoreboard until the very last inning of the contest.
- The top of the seventh began with Caroline Fouras reaching base via an infield single but it looked like she might be stranded after two pop-ups to shortstop. That was until Grace Salaja took her place in the batter's box. The senior proceeded to rip a triple down the left field line to plate her teammate and make it 1-0 Raiders.
- Kennedy Lehn took care of things the rest of the way. Lehn kept her scoreless streak alive by striking out eight for her 15th win of the season in a 1-0 Red & White victory.
- Game Two
- The nightcap between the Raiders and Muskies was the exact opposite of game one. MSOE began the scoring with two in the top of the first and added an additional two runs in the tops of the third and fourth.
- The big damage was done in the fifth stanza, however. The Red & White added another six tallies up on the scoreboard with RBIs going to Grace Brown, Jocelyn Clodi, Alyssa Jacobson, and Faith Matta.
- The Raiders were also thieves on the basepaths, swiping six bags in the process while Lehn added another four innings of scoreless softball to her tally in a 12-2 five inning blowout.
RAIDER REMARKS
- The Raiders clinched yet another NACC tournament berth with the wins today. They will now look to win out with four games remaining to give themselves a chance at the best seeding possible.
