Raiders Finish Strong at Prairie Wolf Duals

LINCOLN, Neb. – The MSOE men's wrestling team competed in the Prairie Wolf Duals on Saturday, taking on Central College (Iowa), Nebraska Wesleyan, and Simpson College (Iowa).  The Raiders would score wins over the Storm and the Prairie Wolves, going 2-1 in an action-packed day on the mat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • vs. Central College
    • The Raiders lone loss of the day came to the Dutch, as Toren Vandenbush was the only Raider to record team points against Central, earning a 12-11 decision victory over his opponent.
    • Jake Schmitt nearly scored team points in his 197 bout, but fell in sudden victory by a score of 4-1.
 
  • vs. Nebraska Wesleyan
    • The Raiders looked to bounce back against the Prairie Wolves, getting off to a slow start as the Raiders fell behind 18-7 in their second dual of the day, despite wins from both Liam Anderson and Max Sanderfoot.
    • Vandenbush would kick off the comeback for the Red and White with a 14-2 major decision win, followed up by a fall victory by teammate Jackson Hughes, putting the Raiders down one with two matches left.
    • Schmitt would give MSOE the lead after rebounding with a 14-2 major decision win, with Gavin Graham completing the comeback and slamming the door on Nebraska Wesleyan with a win at 285 via fall in just 2:44 as the junior continues to wrestle above his weight.
 
  • vs. Simpson College
    • The Raiders got off to a fast start in their final matchup of the day, with Jesse Johnson recording a win via forfeit, followed up by wins from Anderson and Sanderfoot, putting the Red and White up 13-0.
    • The Storm's only team points would come via forfeit, as the Raiders won every bout they took the mat for. Michael Smith would deliver a 5-0 decision win that kicked off a run of five straight wins for MSOE, capped off by a fall for Schmitt at the 4:42 mark of his match.  Vandenbush would be the lone Raider to go undefeated in Lincoln, ending his afternoon with a fall victory in just under five minutes.


WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will be off for the holidays before hitting the mat again in 2025 as they host both Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage at the Kern Center, on January 6th at 5:00 pm.
