Blugolds Sweep Raiders in Home Opener

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – MSOE softball welcomed fans to Raiders Field for the first time this season, as they were swept by the Blugolds of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
UW Eau Claire – 6

MSOE RAIDERS – 2
UW Eau Claire – 12

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • The Raiders (7-7, 2-0 NACC) brought home the first run of the game in the second inning, as Carlee Emery crushed a solo homerun to dead center, bringing the fans to their feet for the first Raider run scored at home this season and giving MSOE a 1-0 lead over the Blugolds (10-6).
    • After the Blugolds took a 2-1 lead, the Raiders capitalized on an Eau Claire error to extend the inning, as Celine Pacheco dumped a single into left field that scored Emery and Noel Dahl in the 5th.
    • After a two-run homer from the Blugolds catcher, MSOE was unable to retake the lead, as the pesky Blugolds scored a couple insurance runs in the seventh, brining the final score to 6-3
  • Game 2
    • The Blugolds jumped out front in the second inning of game two, putting up three runs on four hits.  Jenna Trewyn would bring home Caroline Fouras to get the Raiders on the board in the third inning, bringing the score to 3-1.
    • Eau Claire controlled the game from there, adding a three run homer in the fifth, before a grand slam in the sixth put them ahead 12-1, with the heat on the Raiders to keep the game alive in the bottom of the inning.
    • A pinch hit single from Katie Pollock allowed Sadie Gaberell to score, but the Raiders were unable to avoid the run rule, and fell 12-2.
