Sanfilippo Reaches 200 Career Wins; Splits #11 Spartans

GENEVA, Ill. – MSOE head baseball coach Steve Sanfillippo notched his 200th career victory Saturday in game one of their double-header with #11 Aurora University. Chris Barnes blasted two homeruns in game two as the Raiders split with the Spartans.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 10
#11 Aurora – 4

MSOE RAIDERS – 5
#11 Aurora - 16

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • Barnes blasted his first of two to put MSOE (18-10, 12-4 NACC) up on the board first in the top of the second before #11 Aurora (23-8, 13-5 NACC) answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 4-1 lead.
    • The Raiders worked back into the game in the top of the fifth inning after Christian ground-rule double and made his way to third, coming home on a single from Blake Hall. Micah Overley tied things up later in the inning, legging out a triple for Sam Meidenbauer and Hall to come home, eventually scoring from Barnes to take a 5-4 lead.
    • The Raiders added insurance in the sixth when Collin Truitt connected on home run and Bosque coming home on a groundout from Brandon Beauchamp. Barnes blasted his second of the day in the top of the seventh before Bosque finished off the scoring in game on legging out a triple of his own to score Nolan Wojciechowski.
  • Game Two
    • The Spartans completely blew the Raiders away the first two innings with a 6-1 lead, broken up by an RBI double from Barnes. After an RBI from Overley, the Spartans continued to raise it's lead to 8-2 after three played.
    • The Raiders made things interesting, toying with a comeback, after Beauchamp launched a three-run homerun to cut the deficit to three. Unfortunately, that would be the end of the scoring for the day for the Raiders, as the Spartans double their run total finishing things off in the eighth 16-5.
