MONTGOMERY, ILL. – MSOE softball played in the opening rounds of the NACC Tournament on Thursday afternoon, as the Raiders fell to the Sabres on a walk-off for the second time in three games, ending their postseason run early.
RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Marian Sabres – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- The Raiders (17-24, 12-12 NACC) and Sabres (23-18, 12-12 NACC) were scoreless through three and a half innings of play, as Katie Pollock cruised through the Sabres lineup before allowing a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth. MSOE would respond in the top of the fifth, as Jocelyn Clodi walked before Celine Pacheco moved her over to second base. Clodi found herself on third after a Sabres error, and with two outs, a Marian wild pitch allowed her to come across and knot things up at 1-1 for the Raiders.
- In the top of the seventh the score remained 1-1 as Pacheco singled down the left field line. Evie Modena came on to pinch run in an attempt to manufacture the go-ahead run, but the Raiders would record outs in their next two at-bats, keeping things tied. After a leadoff triple from Marian in the bottom of the seventh, the Sabres had the winning run on third with no outs, and three batters later walked-off the Raiders 2-1 on a bloop single to left center.
