Women's Hockey Blanked by Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The MSOE women's hockey team was unable to find the back of the net on Friday night, as the Raiders fell 1-0 in a defensive minded affair against Marian University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (3-15-2, 2-9-2 NCHA) recorded two early shots on goal from MaryFrancis Williams and Gray Mandia before the Sabres (6-11-3, 4-6-3 NCHA) were unable to find the back of the goal first, putting the Red and White down 1-0 just five minutes into the contest.  The Raiders would go on the powerplay three times in the first period with chances to respond, but Marian was able to stifle the Raiders chances, holding MSOE scoreless on the powerplay despite good shots from Amelia Jutz and Lexi Jackson.
  • The Raiders opened the second period with another power play chance, but the Sabres continued to hamper the MSOE offense as the Raiders failed to record a shot with the extra attacker.  The Red and White would close out the third period with shots from Sara Kopf and Anika Einbeck but neither would find the net as MSOE had 20 minutes to find an equalizer.
  • The Raiders would put their foot to the floor on offense in the third as they fought for the game-tying goal, as Averi Zhong and Darby Boughan nearly got one past the Sabre goalie.  After killing off a penalty at the midway point of the period, the Raiders had ten minutes to get on the board, but a roughing penalty on the Raiders would send the Sabres to the powerplay with just over a minute to go. The Red and White head back to Milwaukee looking to even the series with the Sabres after a tough 1-0 loss for MSOE.

The Raiders will kick-off a two game series against Marian Sabres starting on Friday, January 31st in Fond du Lac, Wis.  Drop of the puck is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
