Women's Hockey Falls to Spartans in Mississippi Matchup

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The MSOE Women's Hockey team kicked-off their second annual trip to the Mississippi Matchup, hosted by University of Dubuque. Despite a valiant comeback attempt, the Raiders would fall to the host Spartans after Dubuque recorded the first four goals of the game.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
University of Dubuque Spartans - 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (3-5-1, 3-2-1 NCHA) fell behind Dubuque (2-7-0, 1-5-0 NCHA) just 2:06 into the contest after MSOE was penalized for too many players on the ice and the Spartans converted their first powerplay opportunity of the game.  The Spartans would up their lead to 2-0 just over four minutes later, as Dubuque stopped MSOE's lone powerplay opportunity of the first period.  Despite outshooting the Spartans across two periods of play, the Raiders would find themselves trailing 4-1 heading to the second intermission after Dubuque recorded two more goals against the Red and White.
  • After a goal from Nadia Buck in the closing minutes of the second period, the momentum looked like it would swing in the Raiders' direction after Hannah Baumann recorded a goal just 1:44 into the third period.  Now trailing 4-2, the Raiders would get a short crack at the powerplay as they approached the midway point of the third period.  Despite the powerplay time expiring, the Raiders would still find the back of the net, with Lexi Jackson finding the back of the net courtesy of assists from Buck and Gray Mandia.  With just 3:03 left, the Raiders would get one last chance on the powerplay, but the Spartans would find a way, stopping all three shots from the Red and White as time ran out on MSOE's comeback attempt.
