Raiders Split With Sabres

GLENDALE, Wis. – The MSOE baseball team split with Marian University on Wednesday, taking game one after the momentum from an early Jordan Skolmar blast gave them the win while dropping game two after big innings in the first and third.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 6
Marian - 2

MSOE RAIDERS – 6
Marian - 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • Marian (6-8, 1-1 NACC) struck first after homering in the bottom of the first inning. Skolmar answered with a long ball of his own, sending one over the left field fence in the top of the second to tie the game at one. Christian Bosque helped take the lead in the top of the third after doubling down the right field line to score Jack Kalitowski before a misque from the Sabres allowed him to come home later in the inning to lead 3-1. Kalitowski came around to score again in the top of the fourth after getting on with a single when Charlie Claas sent one to the wall to lead 4-1.
    • After JJ Jackson limited the Sabres scoring the rest of the way of his seven-inning outing, they cut into their deficit in the bottom of the eighth when they added a run. The Raiders added cushion to their lead in the top of the ninth when Claas and Bosque came in to score to seal it 6-2.
  • Game Two
    • After Claas reached on a single to begin game two, MSOE (7-9, 3-1 NACC) continued that hot streak from game one when AJ Le, Skolmar, and Joe Stried each drove in runs with two outs to take a 3-0 lead. The Sabres answered in a big way in the bottom half of the inning and took a 4-3 lead after one. Elias Lopez helped get the Raiders the lead right back in the top of the second with a double into left center to score Bosque and Claas, but the Sabres added another four spot in the third inning to take a 8-5 lead.
    • The Sabres added to their lead with another run in the fifth to lead 9-5. The Raiders couldn't find a way to lower their deficit until the final inning when Bosque came in on a passed ball, but was shut down right after that to split.
