MILWAUKEE – The MSOE Women's Hockey team dropped the first game of their weekend series with Aurora on Friday night, as the Spartans shutout the Raiders on their home ice.
FINAL SCORE
Aurora – 4
MSOE RAIDERS - 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (9-11-2, 6-7-2 NCHA) and Aurora (7-14-0, 5-10-0 NCHA) held each other scoreless through the first 20 minutes of play, with the Spartans outshooting the Raiders eleven to four in the first period. Nearing the midway point of the second period, the Raiders would go on the powerplay, looking to take advantage of an Aurora hooking penalty. The Spartans would flip the script on the Raiders however, capitalizing on an MSOE turnover and notching a shorthanded goal at the 10:19 mark of the second period. The Raiders would go on the powerplay again in the final minutes of the second frame, with the Aurora goalie stopping scoring chances from Hannah Baumann and Lexi Jackson.
- After trailing 1-0 heading into the final period, the Raiders looked to even things up but found themselves at a deficit again after an interference penalty against the Red and White. The Spartans would take advantage of their ensuing chance to go up 2-0 at the 6:38 mark of the third period, holding the Raiders in check before tallying two more scores down the stretch as the Raiders fell with just three games remaining in the regular season.
