Men's Tennis Splits Opening Weekend of Conference Play

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The MSOE men's tennis team kicked off conference play over the weekend as the Raiders demolished the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors on Saturday evening, before falling to the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech on Sunday.

RESULT
Wisconsin Lutheran College – 0
MSOE RAIDERS – 7

MSOE RAIDERS – 2
Illinois Tech – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs. Wisconsin Lutheran
    • The Raiders faced little resistance from the Warriors, as the Red and White dropped just five games across their nine matches.  MSOE saw two doubles team post shutout straight-set wins as the #2 team of Miguel Lopez and Clark Rue posted a 6-0 win, as well as #3 duo Augusto Eiji Yamazaki and Pedro Rezende Mendes.
    • M. Lopez, Mendes and Yamazaki would match their doubles wins with perfect 6-0, 6-0 singles wins in consecutive sets.  Carlos Lopez, Randy Funez and Emilio Ulloa Payro would help the Red and White complete the shutout with their victories in the Raiders conference opener.
  • vs. Illinois Tech
    • The Raiders would take the doubles point from the Scarlet Hawks after taking both the #1 and #3 doubles sets, with the Raiders team of Funez and C. Lopez clinching the opening point for the Red and White.
    • Yamazaki would be the lone Raider to pick up a victory against the Scarlet Hawks, triumphing after a third set by scores of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.  Both Funez and Ulloa would force third sets for the Red and White, but MSOE would fall to their rivals after dropping five of the six singles bouts.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will take on Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, April 4th at Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wis.  Matches are scheduled to start at 10:00 A.M.
