Raiders Fall to Warriors in Extra Innings

FRANKLIN, Wis. – The MSOE softball team clashed went to extra innings in both games of their doubleheader with the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors, as the Raiders fell in ninth inning in both legs of the conference twinbill.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • MSOE (5-23, 2-12 NACC) and WLC (15-15, 7-7 NACC) were deadlocked in a pitching duel across the first leg of the doubleheader, with Katie Pollock going the distance for the Red and White as the junior struck out three across 8.2 innings of work.  The Raiders would threaten in the third after singles from Autumn Sadler and Rikka Ludvigson, and in the fifth after an Addie Kortman double, but MSOE was unable to bring one across.
    • In extra innings, a leadoff single from Jayda Nelson would give the Red and White a chance, but the Warriors would retire the side from there, before a little small ball and a single gave WLC the walk-off win in game one. 
  • Game Two
    • In game two, the Warriors would tally runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead on the Red and White.  The Raiders would once again struggle to get runs on the board, but in the seventh inning back-to-back singles from Sadler and Emma Smith would give MSOE life.  A wild pitch advanced the runners, before Caroline Fouras knocked one run in, with Ludvigson laying down a squeeze bunt to tie the game up
    • MSOE and WLC would head to extra innings once more in game two, with the Raiders stranding one and Warriors stranding two after the eighth inning.  Smith would draw a leadoff walk in the ninth, but it would prove to be the final baserunner of the afternoon for the Red and White, who would fall to the Warriors after the ninth inning.
 
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will be back in action this Thursday, April 23rd, against the Carthage College Firebirds for a non-conference series.  Game one is set for 3:00 P.M. at MSOE Raiders Field.
