MONTGOMERY, Ill. – An historic run for the MSOE women's lacrosse came to a devasting end on Saturday, going toe-to-toe with Aurora University in the NACC championship, falling in the final minute.
RESULT
No. 4 MSOE RAIDERS – 8
No. 2 Aurora - 9
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (9-11, 6-3 NACC) jumped out to an early lead as Chloe Ninmann and Maggie Sanderson scored with 15 seconds of each other to make it 2-0. Aurora (12-7, 8-1 NACC) went on a scoring spree after that with four straight, including three within a two minute span, to make it 4-2 after one. Sanderson broke up that scoring run with the opening goal of the second with the Spartans rifling in two more after that. Ninmann and Arial Lapsa cut into the deficit to close out the first half to make it 6-5 at the break.
- Ninmann tied up the game with the opening goal of second half, but it didn't last for long as the Spartans took the lead right back just 40 seconds later. Jenna Kent would tie the game back up on a free-position attempt, heading into the fourth. The Raiders grabbed their first lead since six minutes into the game to begin the final quarter with Ninmann scoring her fourth on the day. After tying it back up two minutes later, it became a full on defensive battle for the remainder of the game. Having a man-up opportunity and a free-position attempt, the Spartans would take the lead with just 58 seconds remaining as the Raiders had just one shot opportunity to tie it up but couldn't convert.
