Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After a nearly two-week lay-off, the MSOE women's volleyball team returned to the court Tuesday evening at the Kern Center, falling to Maranatha 3-0.
The Raiders (4-8) had won their last meeting with the Crusaders (12-7) in three sets Sept. 14, but could not shake off the rust in falling in three sets 25-14, 26-24, 25-21.
MBBC proved too much in the opener, hitting .500 to MSOE's .031 to win 25-14. The key was an 8-1 run midway through the frame that broke open a 12-8 contest and made it 20-9.
Once the Red and White got its rhythm back, played a tight second set. The teams were not separated by more than three points the entire set, but the Raiders put together three-straight points to take a 24-23 lead on a kill by sophomore Leah Hendricks (DePere, Wis. / West DePere). Unfortunately, the Crusaders rattled off the final three points to take the set, 26-24.
Set number three shaped up to be another close one, but once again, MBBC ran off a decisive run to take control. MSOE trailed 16-15, but after the dust had settled, it was facing a 22-15 deficit. The team rallied to pull within 22-19, but that would be as close as it got in falling 25-21.
Freshman Sarabeth Haworth (Colorado Springs, Co. / Mesa Ridge) led the way with 12 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Rachel Lynde (Colorado Springs, Co. / Rampart) had nine kills and hit .389, while junior Martha Savory (Evergreen Park, Ill. / Mother McAuley) tallied 32 assists while filling in at setter.
The Raiders are back in action this weekend, hosting matches this weekend at the Kern Center. Benedictine visits Friday at 7 p.m. and Concordia Chicago comes to the Kern Saturday at 6 p.m.
