O'Donnell's Early Score Sends MSOE Past Dominican

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Anna O'Donnell scored in the seventh minute and the defense made it hold up as the MSOE women's soccer team defeated Dominican 1-0 Tuesday evening at MSOE Field.

With the win, the Raiders (9-8, 6-3 NACC) clinched their place in next month's NACC Tournament.

The scoring play started on the back line where sophomore Tori St. Martin served a long ball into the penalty area. O'Donnell collected the ball with one touch and then banged it into the net for her first goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.

The MSOE defense was tough all night, limiting the Stars to mostly long-range shots and few extended attacks in the attacking third. On the other end of the field, the Red and White held a number of extended possessions, but were just unable to add any insurance goals

Freshman Sydney Stephens made four saves for her third shutout of the season. Her best cave came in the closing seconds on a point-blank attempt by Nathalie Mathis, denying her the equalizer and ensuring her team the win.

The Raiders out shot their visitors 18-8 in the match and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

MSOE returns to action Saturday at Lakeland. The team is looking to secure a home tournament game with two regular season contests remaining.
