Raiders Storm Past Warriors 6-1

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Sara Travia (Glendale, Wis. / Nicolet) scored two goals and assisted on another as the floodgates opened for the MSOE women's soccer team in a 6-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday evening in a torrential downpour at MSOE Field.

The Raiders (5-6, 3-1 NACC) had five different players find the back of the net, while outshooting the Warriors (3-8-1, 1-2-1 NACC) 27-4 in the match.

MSOE carried the momentum throughout the entire match, forcing 13 corner kicks and putting 16 of its shots on goal.

Travia opened the game's scoring in the 32nd minute, finishing off a cross from freshman Erika Spanbauer (Oshkosh, Wis. / West). Freshman Kait Riley (Wauwatosa, Wis. / East) also assisted on the play.

Less than four minutes later, sophomore Caitlin Liddiard (Waukesha, Wis. / South) added to the lead with assists from reshman Ally Brehm (Homer Glen, Ill. / Lockport Township) and sophomore Anna O'Donnell (Plainfield, Ill. / North).

The Raiders carried that 2-0 lead into halftime and wasted little time adding to their lead after the intermission, as freshman Maria Schumacher (Green Bay, Wis. / Preble) scored her first collegiate goal in the 48th minute off a Liddiard corner kick.

Schumacher then set up the fourth with a through ball that sprang sophomore Natalie Gayner (Whitefish, Mt. / Whitefish) 1v1 with the goalkeeper in the 67th minute.

About 10 minutes later, the game was thrown into a 35-minute lightning delay. When the teams returned to the field, the scoring was far from over.

The Warriors then struck for their goal on the restart. Mandy Schnell sent a long free kick into the box that bounced over the keeper and into the goal.

In the closing minutes of regulation, Travia set up freshman Leah Ruplinger's (Campbellsport, Wis. / Campbellsport) and then tacked on her second goal of the game to provide the final score.

A pair of keepers played in goal for MSOE. Freshman Sydney Stephens (Chesterfield, Mo. / Parkway Central) played the first 52:01 and made one save. Sophomore Margot Giesey (Batesville, Ind. / Batesville) then closed out the clean sheet.

The Raiders are back in action Tuesday, venturing to the other side of town to play at Alverno. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
