MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Junior Marly Trier (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) won two matches at No. 1 singles and scored a doubles point as the MSOE women's tennis opened the 2013 season with win and loss in a pair of conference matches at the McKinley Courts.
The Raiders (1-1) defeated Benedictine in the morning, then returned in the afternoon, falling to Aurora 5-4.
Trier won both of her matches, defeating Viv Iway from Benedictine 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in a two-hour match. She used a rally to bounce back and claim the third set. She then used a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win against Aurora. At No. 1 doubles, Trier teamed with sophomore Michelle Roubik (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) for an 8-5 win against AU.
Freshman Michelle Lee (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and senior Ashley Albrecht (Brookfield, Wis./Central) also posted wins against the Eagles. Lee posted a solid win in her collegiate debut at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1. At No. 5 singles, Albrecht got the win, rebounding from a first-set loss to claim the 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-3 win in two hours. MSOE also claimed a pair of wins by default.
Against the Stars, Roubik won at No. 3 singles 7-5, 4-6 (10-3) and freshman Kelsey Weinkauf (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown) won at No. 4 singles. She finished her opponent 6-2, 6-1.
MSOE returns to action Wednesday, hosting Wisconsin Lutheran. The Raiders return to McKinley Courts and get underway with the Warriors at 4 p.m.
