Box Score 2 BELOIT, Wis – The MSOE women's volleyball went 2-0 on the final day of the Buc Blast with wins over host Beloit and Finlandia Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders (2-2) downed the Buccaneers in a morning match in four sets, 3-1. They took the first set 25-18, rebounded from a 16-6 deficit in falling in set two 23-25. They then rode the momentum from that near comeback to take the final two sets 25-15 and 25-18.
Against Finlandia, MSOE had little trouble, winning 25-10, 25-20 and 25-13 in its first three-set match of the season.
With the wins, the Raiders finished 2-2 at the Buc Blast, taking third in the six-team tournament. Marian won with a 4-0 mark and Dubuque was second at 3-1.
Head coach Wayne Schultz earned his first collegiate coaching win against BC, as the Red and White rode a strong offensive performance to victory. Freshman Sarabeth Haworth (Colorado Springs, Co./Mesa Ridge) continued her strong first weekend of college with 12 kills, while another rookie, Maria Bintz (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), had a team-high 14 kills. Freshman Rachel Lynde (Colorado Springs, Co./Rampart) hit .555 in the match and junior Ali Borrelli (Manhattan, Ill./Peotone) dished out 37 assists.
Sophomore Leah Hendricks (DePere, Wis./West DePere) led the way against the Lions with eight kills and three blocks. Lynde added seven kills for MSOE.
Junior Ali LoBue (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) was named to the all-tournament team. She averaged 2.85 digs per set and had dig totals of 16 against Dubuque and 14 vs. Marian on Friday.
Schultz's team returns to action with three home matches next week at the Kern Center. The Raiders first host Mount Mary Monday evening at 8 p.m.
