MSOE Falls In Tight Contest With Lake Forest, 2-1

Box Score

KENOSHA, Wis. – Michelle Greeneway scored two goals to lead Lake Forest to a 2-1 win over the MSOE women's soccer team Wednesday evening at MSOE Field.

Despite surrendering a sixth-minute score to Greeneway, the Raiders (1-4) fought to level the field and freshman Sara Travia (Glendale, Wis. / Nicolet) nabbed the equalizer before halftime. The decisive Forester (4-1) goal then came in the 65th minute.

The opening score came on a through ball from Katelyn Hronek that Greeneway ran onto. She cut a pair of defenders and finished with a low shot to the right.

MSOE slowly stated to seize momentum in the contest and broke through for the equalizer with under three minutes remaining in the half. The Raiders were awarded a penalty kick when a player was taken down crossing the top of the box. Travia calmly stepped to the penalty spot and buried her attempt for her third goal of the season.

After the intermission, the match was played back and forth with both teams generating scoring chances. In the 65th minute, Holly Lesperance launched a shot from the near side of the 18-yard box that freshman Sydney Stephans (Chesterfield, Mo. / Parkway Central) made a sprawling save on. Unfortunately, the ball settled near the goal line and Greeneway was there to tuck it in for the decisive goal.

The Red and White kept pushing for another equalizer, controlling possession for much of the final minutes. Senior Paula Bohl (Muskego, Wis. / Muskego) hit the post on a blast from the top of the box with 8:14 remaining and the Raiders were maintaining an extended attack as the final horn blew.

Stephens was string in goal, finishing with six saves on the night. Her counterpart, Rachel Tenuta, made five saves on the night to preserve the victory for the Foresters.

MSOE has a 10-day lay-off before returning to action Sept. 21 at Marian in the NACC opener for both teams. The Raiders and Sabres kick off at 2:30 p.m. in the second half of a men's/women's doubleheader.
