Raiders Split Matches At Home Quad

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Freshman Rachel Lynde (Colorado Springs, Co. / Rampart) had a team-high 13 kills and hit .379 to lead the MSOE women's volleyball team to a split at its home quadrangular Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (4-7) was swept by Carroll in the first match, 25-15, 25-22, 25-22, but bounced back to take down Maranatha in three sets, 25-18, 26-24, 25-23. In the other games, Maranatha and Carroll each defeated Marian 3-0.

Against the Crusaders, MSOE used key runs in each set to come out victorious. In the opening frame, the Raiders trailed 10-9 before scoring six-straight points and never looking back. Then, a five-point spurt in set two erased an MBBC lead and put MSOE ahead 23-19. The visitors would bounce back to tie it at 24-24, but the Red and White scored the next two points to take the set.

MSOE trailed 14-12 in the decisive set, but, again, went on a run to take the lead for good. The Raiders turned a 14-12 deficit into an 18-14 advantage. They extended their lead to five at 22-17 before the Crusaders staged a late comeback. Maranatha fought off four match points to get the score to 24-23, but MSOE followed with a tip kill to end the threat and the match.

Lynde had an efficient attacking match against MBBC and was joined in double-digit kills by freshman Maria Bintz (Germantown, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) with 11. Bintz also helped direct the offense, adding 11 assists for the double-double. Freshman Sarabeth Haworth (Colorado Springs, Co. / Mesa Ridge) added nine kills and led three Raiders in double-digits in kills with 15.

In the opener, the Raiders and Pioneers played a pair of tight matches after CU won the first set by 10. In set two, there was eight lead changes and 12 ties, while MSOE did not trail in set three until a decisive six-point run gave Carroll a 23-20 lead.

Haworth led the way with seven kills in the first match.

The Raiders return to action and NACC play Wednesday at Concordia Wisconsin. MSOE and CUW will get started at 7 p.m. in Mequon.
