Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Freshman Sarabeth Haworth (Colorado Springs, Co. / Mesa Ridge) had 13 kills and the MSOE women's volleyball team hit .413 on the night in rolling to a 25-9, 25-16, 25-6 win over Mount Mary in its home-opener Monday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (3-2) have now won three-straight matches after winning a pair at the Buc Blast last Saturday in Beloit. Meanwhile, this was the season-opener for the Blue Angels (0-1).
MSOE cruised in the first and third sets, opening large leads and never looking back. In the first, the Raiders jumped out to a 12-4 lead and grew it to 18-7 before an MMC timeout. They hit .353 in the set, limiting the Blue Angels to a -.625 hit percentage. In the third set, the Red and White ran out 11-1 and coasted to a quick 25-6 final.
Mount Mary took control early in the second set and led 7-4, but the Raiders responded with a 13-1 run to take over and go on to win the closest set of the night.
Freshman Maria Bintz (Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) finished nine kills and hit .600 for the match, while freshman Rachel Lynde (Colorado Springs, Co./Rampart) had seven kills. Junior Ali Borrelli (Manhattan, Ill./Peotone) directed the offense with 25 assists to go with five service aces.
The MSOE defense limited Mount Mary to just five kills and -.143 hitting on the night. Sarah Wishau led the Blue Angels with three kills and Andrea Roell had two.
The Raiders return to action Wednesday, hosting a triangular with Lawrence and Wisconsin Lutheran. MSOE takes on LU at 3 p.m. and WLC at 7 p.m.
