Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team notched 17 service aces, just missing a school record, on its way to a 25-14, 25-10, 25-13 victory over Mount Mary Wednesday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (10-11) got out to big leads in each set in sweeping past the Blue Angels (0-23).
MSOE's 17 aces just missed the school record of 18 set Sept. 24, 2011. Freshman Abby Born led the way with six aces in the match and sophomore Sarabeth Haworth added three. Junior Leah Hendricks led the team with seven kills.
Sarah Wishau and Payton Hintz each had six kills each for MMU.
The Red & White was efficient on both sides of the court, equaling a season-low with just 10 attack errors and limiting Mount Mary to -.053 hitting in the match.
MSOE opened and closed the first set with 11-2 runs to take a 1-0 lead with ease. Born led a run on service aces in the frame, five during a stretch of eight-straight points, and finished with six. The Raiders finished with nine aces in the frame. They also had nine kills, compared to just three errors.
The Raider offense was even more on point in the second set, hitting .318 with 10 kills and just three errors. The home team jumped out to a 10-3 lead and, after back-to-back Blue Angel points, ripped off another 11-2 run to take a 21-7 advantage and never looked back.
In the final set, MSOE once again was out in front early with a 9-2 run to start things. The score was 16-10 midway through the frame, but the Raiders scored five-straight points to take control of the set and did not look back.
MSOE returns to the road this weekend, playing a pair of NACC matches in Illinois. They play at Aurora Friday and Dominican Saturday.
