LISLE, Ill. – The MSOE women's volleyball team won the opening set, but dropped the final three in a 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 loss to Benedictine Friday evening at the Rice Center.

The Raiders (6-9, 1-2 NACC) were limited to just .038 hitting on the night as the Eagles (6-15, 4-0 NACC) rebounded for the win.

Sophomores Sarabeth Haworth and Rachel Lynde led MSOE with seven kills apiece. Sophomore Maria Bintz had six kills and seven total blocks, while junior Kasey Mylin had five kills and five sets.

Emily Chitwood had a match-best 10 kill as Benedictine hit only slightly better than the Raiders at .079.

The opening set was a frame of runs, as the home team broke a 3-3 tie with eight-straight points. MSOE responded a short time later with runs of 6-0 and 8-3 to take a 19-17 lead. BenU regained the lead with four-straight points and the Raiders closed out the set on a 6-3 run punctuated with a Haworth service ace.

There were seven lead changes and eight ties in the second set, but the Eagles managed to pull away late to even the match at a set apiece. They would then take the match lead with a win in set three. Benedictine opened the set with a 9-2 run. MSOE did not back down, facing a 15-7 deficit before going on a 10-4 run to pull within two at 19-17. Unfortunately, that was as close as it would get.

The Raiders fell behind again early in the final and decisive set as BenU scored six-straight points early to expand on a 6-5 lead. They would play catch up the rest of the frame, getting as close as 23-20 late before falling.

MSOE returns to the court Saturday at Concordia Chicago. The match gets underway at 6 p.m.
