Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Sophomore Maria Bintz tallied 13 kills to lead the MSOE women's volleyball team to a 25-19, 26-24, 25-22 victory over Concordia Chicago Saturday evening at Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Raiders (7-9, 2-2 NACC) hit .226 for the match and had eight service aces to get past the Cougars (4-16, 1-3 NACC).
Bintz added two aces and seven digs, while hitting .375 in the match. Sophomore Sarabeth Hawroth and junior Kasey Mylin had a team-high three aces each, while senior Kelly Bauserman added a pair. Freshman Abby Born directed the offense with 29 assists and sophomore Rachel Lynde scored nine kills.
Kaylyn Anderson had 10 kills, as CUC hit .209 for the match.
MSOE scored the first three points of the match and never trailed in the opening set. CUC had back-to-back points just three times as the Raiders slowly pulled away to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set proved to be much closer with seven ties in the early going. The Red & White would eventually pull away for a 22-17 lead, but Concordia responded with a 7-2 run for the eighth tie of the set at 24-25. Fortunately, MSOE closed out the frame with back-to-back points.
The third set proved to be the most dramatic, as the Raiders faced a 22-20 deficit before rattling off five-straight points to close out the match. They had used a 5-0 run to take the lead early in the frame at 8-6, but the Cougars overcame a 13-10 score with seven-straight points and looked as if they would extend the match before the Red & White's late run.
The Raiders are back on the court Tuesday, hosting Maranatha at the Kern Center. The match gets underway at 7 p.m.
