Box Score PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Three different players scored goals and senior Garrett Farin made five saves to lead the MSOE men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over UW-Platteville Tuesday evening at Pioneer Stadium.
The Raiders' (10-3) defense withstood a 15-8 shot advantage and 10 corner kicks from the Pioneers (4-6-3), but the group was up to the task in helping the team to its second win over a WIAC school this season.
MSOE got going in the first half with a pair of goals, as freshmen Braden Andryk and Silas Linares each found the back of the net.
In the 15th minute, it was Andryk finishing off an assist from Marcello Alves. He took a pass from the Brazilian and blasted a shot from the corner of the penalty area into the upper corner at the far post.
Five minutes later, junior Logan Andryk sent a corner kick to the far post, which Linares redirected with a head ball inside the post to double the Red & White's advantage.
The Pioneers pulled a goal back early in the second half, making it 2-1 in the 48th minute. William Preto headed a corner kick on goal, but Farin was there to make the save. Unfortunately, Jake Olk was there to clean up the rebound and make it 2-1.
Alves got that goal back for the Raiders in the 71st minute. He took a shot from 25 yards out, beating the keeper high and deflecting off the crossbar and across the goal line.
MSOE is now 2-1 against WIAC schools this season, having defeated UW-Oshkosh 2-0 Sept. 17 and fallen to UW-Whitewater 1-0 four days prior.
The Raiders return to action Saturday at Benedictine in a showdown of the NACC's last two unbeaten teams.
