Box Score MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Maria Bintz had a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs to lead the MSOE women's volleyball team against Maranatha Baptist Tuesday night in a 25-19, 26-24, 25-20 loss at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (7-10) fell to the Sabercats (20-5) for the second time this season, while the visitors posted their ninth-straight victory.
Sophomore Rachel Lynde finished with seven kills, while sophomore Sarabeth Haworth notched 13 digs. Freshman Abby Born finished with 28 assists on the night.
Stacy Reinke was the lone Maranatha player to reach double-figures in kills with 10. She added 12 digs and Samantha Swiatek added a match-best 16.
Errors doomed the Raiders in the opening set, as they committed nine en route to a -.026 attack percentage. The miscues were dangerous early, as MBU jumped out to an early 9-2 advantage courtesy of six errors. MSOE rebounded to hang with the visitors over the rest of the period, but could get no closer than four the rest of the way.
In the second set, the Red & White jumped ahead early and 5-4 and played from ahead for most of the period. The score remained tight, but the Raiders was playing for set point at 24-22. Unfortunately, the Sabercats scored the final four points to take the set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
MSOE broke a 6-6 tie in the final frame with a 5-0 run, only to see Maranatha respond with eight-straight points to take a 14-11 lead. The home team would fight back to knot the score at 16-16, but once again MBU pulled away, this time a 4-0 stretch to take control. The Sabercats slowly pulled away down the stretch and closed out the match.
MSOE returns to the court and NACC play Friday, hosting Alverno. The Raiders and Inferno get underway at 7 p.m. at the Kern Center.
