Six Raiders Score in 8-0 Win Against Alverno

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Junior Caitlin Liddiard tallied a hat trick and five other players scored goals as the MSOE women's soccer team defeated Alverno 8-0 Wednesday evening at Viets Field.

The Raiders (7-4-1, 3-1 NACC) posted their third-straight conference win, each by a shutout, and retained possession of the Red Rivalry Cup, which goes to the winner of each matchup between MSOE and the Inferno (1-9-1, 0-4 NACC).

Liddiard struck for her first goal just 39 seconds into the match, taking a through ball from junior Natalie Gayner. Liddiard's second goal of the opening frame was a well-taken free kick from the corner of the penalty area in the 25th minute. She placed her shot just inside the far post and made it 3-0.

Gayner picked up a goal of her own in the 10th minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty area.

Sophomore Sara Travia took a bit to get going, but found the back of the net on one of her eight first-half shots, making a long run into the box and notching the Raiders' fourth goal in the 31st minute.

Five minutes later, sophomore Rachael Griffin made it 5-0 in the 36th minute, taking assists from junior Alex Klonis and freshman Carley Mitus.

MSOE was dominant in the opening half, outshooting the Inferno 19-2 and putting 10 of those shots on goal.

In the second half, the Raiders picked up where they left off early. Liddiard completed her hat trick in the 51st minute, getting on the receiving end of a long through ball from Travia in the midfield. Liddiard finished with one touch for her third career hat trick.

Two more Raiders added their first goals of the season to cap the scoring in the match. Sophomore Ally Brehm benefited from Travia's second assist of the season to put her through on goal in the 61st minute. In the 79th minute, freshman Kayla Thilges scored her first collegiate goal with a lofted shot just inside the box to the far post.

For the match, MSOE outshot Alverno 34-3 and had a 17-2 advantage in shots on goal. Three different keepers saw time for the Raiders, with freshman Mary McFee getting the start and played just over 28 minutes and made a save. Sophomore Haley Anderson followed with a save in just under 31 minutes and junior Margot Giesey played the final 31:10 of the match.

MSOE was able to play all 28 healthy players on the roster during the game.

The Raiders return to the field Saturday at Benedictine.
