Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Sophomore Shaylan Reardon scored 21 points and the MSOE women's basketball team outscored host Dominican by 15 points in the second half to emerge with a 78-63 victory Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum.
The Raiders (6-1, 4-1 NACC) continued to match the best start in school history with a strong second half against the Stars (0-9, 0-5 NACC).
Reardon scored 14 of her points in the second half as MSOE pulled away after a 37-37 tie at halftime. Junior Megan Kroll had 19 points on the night, adding four steals and five rebounds. Sophomore Corrine Sanford also reached double-digits for the second-straight game off the bench with 11.
Sidney Montano and Shamia Clark had 18 points apiece for home-standing Dominican. Allie Tapanes chipped in 10.
The Raiders have now won four-straight games, with each going into halftime as a one-possession game. Each time, they have stepped up their game in the second half and Saturday was no different.
Dominican took a 41-40 lead two minutes into the second half, but Reardon quickly answered with a three-pointer to kick-start a 10-2 run for MSOE to make it 50-43 at the 15:19 mark. The Raiders added to their lead with another 8-2 to make it 64-51 with 9:39 to play.
MSOE had an efficient offensive night, shooting 43.1 percent from the field and tying a school record with just eight turnovers. The team also got to the free throw line 30 times, making 24. Dominican shot 42.6 percent from the field, but committed 19 turnovers in the game and came away with just one steal.
The Raiders matched the 2011-12 squad with six wins in their first seven games and will look to eclipse that team when it returns to the court Wednesday against Illinois Tech. The teams will tip off at 7 p.m. at the Kern Center.
