Stueck's 30 Not Enough for MSOE at Dominican

Box Score

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Junior Austin Stueck scored 30 points and eclipsed 1,000 career points, but it was not enough, as the MSOE men's basketball team fell to Dominican 66-65 Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum.

Stueck scored nine points over the final 12 seconds, but could not get the Raiders (5-5, 2-3 NACC) past the Stars (1-8, 1-5).

Stueck entered the day needing just two points to become the 13th member of MSOE's 1,000-point club. He reached the milestone with a jumper 2:53 into the game. He was the lone double-digit scorer for the Raiders, as junior Connor Patterson finished with nine goals and 11 rebounds.

Tim Robertson led Dominican with 21 points. Quinn Pokora scored 15 and Josh Mayberry had 10.

The Raiders found themselves playing from behind for most of the second half, trailing by as many as eight.

The Stars thought they had put the game away, as Mayberry hit a three-pointer to make it 61-54 with just 33 seconds remaining.

Senior Jeremiah Erdmann quickly answered with a layup. After a DU free throw, Stueck hit the first of three-straight three-pointers with 12 seconds remaining. The Stars converted two more free throws and Stueck answered with another three to make it 64-62 with five seconds to play.

Dominican continued to make its free throws, adding two more to make it 66-62. Stueck beat the buzzer with, yet, another three-pointer, but that ended the game.

MSOE had shot better than 50 percent in each of its last three games--all wins, but finished the game shooting just 39.4 percent. The team was also just 10-of-17 at the free throw line. The Stars shot marginally better for the game at 41.3, but converted 10-of-13 free throw attempts.

The Raiders close out 2014 Tuesday, traveling to Plymouth to take on Lakeland.
