Box Score MILWAUKEE – Junior Connor Patterson had 21 points and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough as the MSOE men's basketball team fell short at the buzzer in a 59-57 loss to Marian Tuesday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (2-4, 1-2 NACC) led for much of the game, but could not fully recover from a six-point deficit in the final minute against the Sabres (3-2, 2-0 NACC).
Patterson did his damage on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Junior Austin Stueck scored 15 points, while senior Nathan Verdun joined them in double-figures with 10 points.
Josh Creed had 22 points for Marian and Drew Binversie added 10.
The visitors took a six-point lead with 1:20 remaining on a Creed layup, but the Raiders rallied. Senior Jeremiah Erdmann scored a quick basket and MSOE then forced a turnover. After a timeout, Stueck hit a pair of free throws to make it 59-57 with 34.6 seconds on the clock.
Junior Brent Radlinger gave the Red & White new life, coming up with a steal with 20.5 seconds to go and the MSOE bench called a quick timeout. Coming out of the break, the Raiders got three shots off in the final seconds, but could not get one to fall.
There was 15 lead changes and seven ties in the game. MSOE was ahead for much of the opening half and saw its lead peak at six points on a couple occasions early in the second half. Meanwhile, Marian was unable to pull ahead by more than two at any point until its late six-point edge.
The Raiders were limited to 38.8 percent shooting on the night and converted just 2-of-14 three-point attempts. They also committed 15 turnovers, with 11 coming on Sabre steals.
Marian shot 56 percent in the second half to finish at 43.1 percent for the night. They made just 3-of-13 three-point tries and was 12-for-16 at the charity stripe.
The Raiders return to action Thursday, hosting Edgewood at the Kern Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
