Box Score MEQUON, Wis. – The MSOE men's basketball team led by as many as 14, but had to hold off Concordia Wisconsin's late run to post a school-record tying 19th win 74-72 Tuesday evening at the Buuck Field House.
The Raiders (19-4, 14-4 NACC) won their sixth-straight game and matched the 2010-11 team's school records for wins in a season.
Sophomore Austin Stueck scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead MSOE. Sophomore Connor Patterson added 13 points and senior John Cording scored 11 points and finished with four steals.
CUW was led by Eric Kittel's 18 points. Dustin Thurmann scored 16 and Garret Wenzelburger 11, both off the bench.
The Red and White shot lights out in the first half, hitting on 17-of-25 from the field for a 68 percent clip and a 43-30 halftime advantage. The team held a 30-27 lead at 4:05 of the half, but finished the frame on a 13-3 run.
In the second half, the Falcons started to cut into MSOE's lead. The game was separated by 11 points, with the Raiders leading 52-41, at 14:53, before the home team rattled off a 14-3 lead to tie the game at 55-55 just under five minutes later.
MSOE did not relinquish its lead the rest of the game, conceding several ties, but playing from ahead down the stretch. With 31 seconds to go, Cording hit 1-of-2 free throws with 31 seconds remaining and CUW got the rebound trailing 72-70.
After a timeout, on the ensuing the Red and White defense forced a loose ball and Concordia into another timeout. When play resumed, the Falcons committed a turnover and Stueck hit a pair of free throws to ice the game. CUW hit a consolation jumper with just under two seconds to go and MSOE ran out the clock.
MSOE returns to action Saturday, hitting the road to play at Dominican.
