Raiders Get By Dominican For Record 20th Win

Box Score

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE men's basketball team made 9-of-15 three-pointers and overcame a two-point halftime deficit and defeat Dominican 69-59 for the team's 20th win of the season Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum.

The Raiders (20-4, 15-4 NACC) won their seventh-straight game and surpassed the school record for wins that they had tied earlier this week. The win also secured the team a top-two seed for the NACC Tournament next week.

Sophomore Austin Stueck hit four 3-pointers for a team-high 14 points to go with four assists for MSOE. Sophomore Connor Patterson added 11 points, while three more Red and White players scored at least eight points and another added seven.

Taylor DeRoo led three Stars (4-20, 3-16 NACC) in double-figures with 16 points. Kyle Sherwin had 11 points and Josh Mayberry totaled 10.

MSOE trailed for nearly 17 minutes to end the first half, falling behind by as much as six, but cutting the score to 31-29 at halftime. Dominican's lead was short-lived in the second half, as Stueck hit a three-pointer for a brief 33-32 lead. The Stars answered with a basket, but senior Jaren Singh kick-started a 14-2 run that would put the Red and White in the lead for good.

When sophomore Dylan Jones hit a layup with 13:13 remaining, the Raiders led 46-35. They would build their lead as high as 16 down the stretch, while keeping the advantage in double-digits until the last couple minutes. DU did get within seven with 42 seconds remaining, but three-straight free throws put an end to the threat.

MSOE shot 47.8 percent from the field, but was strong from downtown. The 60 percent from three-point range is tied for the fourth-best single-game performance in history. The team also tempered an uncharacteristic 16-for-30 effort from the free throw line with just 11 turnovers in the game.

The Raiders close out the regular season Wednesday, hosting Wisconsin Lutheran at the Kern Center. They are holding out hope for a share of the NACC regular season championship. Just one game back, MSOE needs a win vs. WLC and a Marian loss to Concordia Wisconsin to tie the Sabres for the top spot.
