Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The MSOE baseball team committed seven errors, but it was a Caleb Kissel single in the 11th inning that propelled Rose-Hulman to a 4-3 victory Saturday morning in Florida.
The Raiders (4-4) capped its spring trip south with another strong outing on the mound, conceding just one earned run in the game, while the Engineers (3-3) did well to keep the Red and White offense at bay.
Senior Adam Vlaj got the start on the mount, scattering 10 hits over seven innings. He struck out four, walked none and allowed three unearned runs. Freshman Brandon McCumber (0-2) suffered the defeat, working 3.1 innings in relief. He did not allow a hit before the 11th and struck out two.
MSOE got on the board first in the opening frame, stringing three-straight singles together to push a run across. It was sophomore Casey Magyar's base hit, which plated senior Derek Jordan. Senior Max Poeske then doubled in McCumber in the fourth inning to make it 2-0.
RHIT responded with an unearned run in the bottom half of the fourth and struck two more in the six inning to take a 3-2 lead.
The Raiders evened the score in the eighth inning when McCumber beat out a possible double play ground ball that scored Jordan.
Jordan and Magyar had three hits apiece as MSOE racked up a season-high 13 in the game.
The Red and White played its third extra-inning game in its last four contests, having won the previous two.
The Raiders return to action next weekend, heading to Ohio for a doubleheader at Capital and a single game with Elmhurst.
