Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE – Freshman Brandon McCumber threw a complete-game gem in game on and the MSOE baseball team rallied from an early deficit to post a win in game two as it swept a doubleheader against Lakeland Saturday at Henry Aaron Field.
The Raiders (8-10, 4-4 NACC) claimed game one 5-1 and overcame the Muskies' (6-15, 1-7 NACC) early three-run lead to prevail 7-6 in game two.
MSOE plated single runs in each of the first two innings of game one to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. The team put its lead-off hitters on in each of the innings, plating runs on a single by junior Jake Roberts in the first and a double by senior David Miklosi in the second.
The Red and White capitalized on some Lakeland miscues to add three insurance runs in the seventh. Three-straight bunts reached base to open the inning and came around to score. Miklosi pulled a run back for the Raiders in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly, but LC made it a three-run game once again with a single run in the fourth inning to make it 4-1.
MSOE rallied for four runs in the fifth inning to seize the lead. The home team once again capitalized on errors to plate those runs with just one hit. Four hitters reached on walks and a run scored on a wild pitch. Sophomore Casey Magyar had the lone base knock, an infield single that plated a run.
The Raiders made it 6-4 with small ball in the sixth inning. Senior Max Poeske led off with a walk and Vlaj followed with a single. After a double steal, senior Wes Stasik scored Poeske with a sacrifice fly.
Lakeland did not go away, tying the game with two runs in the next half inning. The Muskies capitalized on a lead-off walk, bringing it around to score on an RBI single, then tacking on the tying run with a double into the left center gap.
Junior Ben Falls (2-2) picked up his second win of the week, working four innings of relief. He allowed three hits and two runs, while striking out two and walking one.
