Rookies Help Raiders Clip Falcons, 5-4

MILWAUKEE - Three freshmen claimed singles points and teamed for doubles points as the MSOE men's tennis team defeated Concordia Wisconsin 5-4 Tuesday afternoon at Elite Club-River Glen.

The Raiders (5-9, 3-1 NACC) and Falcons (4-2, 9-12 NACC) have each finished in the top two of the conference standings in each of the last five seasons. They have also squared off in the championship match of the NACC Tournament in each of the three seasons on the current format.

This was MSOE's first win over CUW since 2010, when the Red and White claimed the conference crown.

Freshmen stepped up for the Raiders, claiming singles wins at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles. David Gorodetsky, who won in the No. 3 position 6-2, 6-1, teamed with senior Eric Kamrowski for an 8-3 win in the No. 1 doubles spot.

John Price and Tom Smith were MSOE's No. 3 doubles team and claimed an 8-5 victory. Individually, Price claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and Smith was victorious at No. 6, 7-5, 6-2.

It was a tight match throughout, and even some of the Raiders' dropped points were tough. Junior Zachary Dam pushed his No. 2 singles match to three sets and at No. 2 doubles forced extra games in a 9-7 loss.

MSOE returns to the courts Saturday, playing dual matches at Concordia Chicago at 10 a.m. and Dominican at 2 p.m.
