Raiders Suffer Sweep at Hands of Northland

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE baseball team pounded out 22 hits and earned 10 walks in two games, but it was not enough as it was swept in a doubleheader by Northland, 8-6 and 9-5, Wednesday afternoon at Henry Aaron Field.

The Raiders (11-18) held leads in both games against the Lumberjacks (15-11), but could not hold off late rallies by an offense that was hitting .321 as a team entering the day.

In game one, NC struck first with two runs in the opening frame, but MSOE responded with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the innings. The Raiders then took the lead with a run in the third inning and made it 6-2 with three runs in the fifth inning.

Sophomore Tyler Parisi had an RBI double to open the scoring in the fifth inning. Senior David Miklosi then followed with a two-run triple.

The Jacks waste little time responding, plating six runs in their next at-bat to take an 8-6 lead. The first four batters of the frame reached safely, including an RBI single. Two Red and White errors and a two-run single added to the tally as the visitors took the lead.

Junior Thomas Hartwick made the start and allowed just three earned runs through 5.1 innings of work. Senior Wes Stasik (0-1) relieved him in the sixth inning and was charged with the decisive runs, including one earned.

Northland also opened the second game with a run it its opening at-bat, scoring a single run in the first. MSOE responded in the second with a run.

The Jacks scored twice in the third, but the Raiders jumped ahead with a three-run fourth inning. They strung four hits together in the frame, with junior Jake Roberts, Stasik and Miklosi each plating runs with base hits.

The lead would be short-lived. NC regained the lead for good with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. A two-run double and an RBI triple did the bulk of the damage, with a steal of home capping the scoring.

After MSOE pulled a run back in the sixth inning, the Jacks added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Both runs came home, unearned, on a two-out error.

The second game was a bullpen game for the Raiders as five pitchers saw the mound. Freshman Cole Paul (0-1) suffered the loss in his collegiate debut. After a clean first inning of work, he allowed three runs in his second inning, getting just one out.

At the plate, Miklosi and freshman Brandon McCumber each collected three hits and a walk in the first game. In game two, Roberts and sophomore Tyler Doyle had two hits apiece.

The Raiders hit the road next, closing out conference play with doubleheaders at Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday and No. 3 Concordia Chicago Sunday.
