Box Score APPLETON, Wis. – Sophomore Sarabeth Haworth and Maria Bintz had 12 kills apiece, but it was not enough as the MSOE women's volleyball team fell to Lawrence 25-11, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20 Wednesday evening at Alexander Gymnasium.
The Raiders (3-2) dropped the first set, before putting up a fight in set two and taking the third frame against the Vikings (2-6).
LU came out fast, picking up a quick first-set victory and looked on its way to a second at 23-15 in the second set. MSOE rattled off a 7-1 run to pull within 24-22, but could get no closer. It did carry that momentum into the third set and came away with a 25-16 win. The Raiders hit .280 in the set and utilized an 11-3 run to establish themselves.
In the decisive frame, the Vikings took the lead early and MSOE could not pull past a five-point deficit down the stretch.
Both Haworth and Bintz had double-doubles, as Haworth tallied 14 digs and Bintz 12. The Raider block was also strong, as junior Kasey Mylin finished with seven blocks and sophomore Madeline Molnor added five.
Lawrence was led by Therese Swords with 10 kills, its lone player in double-figures.
The Red & White returns to action Thursday, heading to Watertown, Wis., to take on Maranatha.
