Raiders Come Up Short Against Whitewater 1-0

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Justin Stanko's goal in the 35th minute went as the match's lone score as the MSOE men's soccer team fell to UW-Whitewater 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (4-2) could not break down the Warhawk (3-2-1) defense, despite a 15-13 shot advantage in the match and seven shots on goal.

Senior Garrett Farin had a strong game in goal despite the loss, making five saves and seeing his personal shutout streak reach 372:21 before conceding his first goal in five appearances.

Even the goal that was allowed came after Farin came off his line to make a great point-blank save on John Gottwald's initial shot. The rebound fell to Stanko, who put the ball in the net.

Whitewater carried an edge in possession, but the Raiders looked dangerous going forward. They had a number of near misses and some strong shots that Chris Lucatorto was able to stop. Both junior Logan Andryk and freshman Braden Andryk put two shots on goal, while senior Jorn Witte had a header cleared off the line at the post late in the second half.

Lucatrto finished with six saves for the shutout.

MSOE will look to move on quickly, as it welcomes a second-straight WIAC opponent to Viets Field Wednesday. The Raiders will take on UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
