Raider Defense Stymies Oshkosh in 2-0 Victory

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - The MSOE men's soccer team scored a goal in each half and withstood a 19-4 shot deficit in defeating UW-Oshkosh 2-0 Wednesday evening at Viets Field.

The Raiders (5-2) found themselves defending for much of evening against the Titans (4-3), but made the most of their offensive chances.

In the opening half, the visitors had a decisive 12-2 shot advantage, but it was MSOE that went ahead in the 26th minute on senior Drew Porter's first goal of the season.

Junior Logan Andryk started the scoring play with a long free kick past the far post. Senior Jorn Witte tracked the ball and headed it back across goal from the end line. Porter was there to head it into the goal of the underside of the crossbar.

Play in the match evened out somewhat in the second half, but the Raiders still found themselves on the back foot for much of the frame. It didn't stop them from doubling their advantage on an Andryk penalty kick in the 61st minute.

Andryk started this play with another well-placed free kick. Witte then flicked it past the defense to an on-running freshman Braden Andryk. The younger Andryk got through on the pass and put a foot to the ball before a violent collision with the goalkeeper inside the box. The referee awarded MSOE a penalty kick and Logan converted for an insurance goal.

Oshkosh fought to get forward and back into the game, but the Red & White defense was up to the task and limited the dangerous chances in front of senior keeper Garrett Farin. Farin came up with five saves in the match, including a pair of tremendous stops in the opening frame.

For the match, shots ended up 19-4 in UWO's favor with a 5-2 discrepency in shots on goal. The Titans also had six coner kicks to MSOE's one.

The Raiders return to action this weekend, opening NACC play Saturday against Marian at Viets Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
