Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's soccer team quickly overcame an early 1-0 deficit and scored five unanswered goals in handing Marian a 5-1 defeat Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.
The Raiders (6-2, 1-0 NACC) had five different players score to lead them in their conference opener against the Sabres (3-4, 0-1 NACC).
Junior Logan Andryk paced the offense with a goal and two assists, while head and his brother, freshman Braden Andryk, combined for 17 shots in the match.
It was Marian scoring first in just the 10th minute, when Israel Tovar Jr. drove to the endline and sent a cross to the front of the goal for Alonso Fragoso, who finished from just five yards out.
The deficit was short-lived for MSOE, as Logan Andryk's first assist set up senior Jorn Witte with the equalizer just 2:09 later on a corner kick. In the 14th minute, Braden Andryk took a through ball from junior Brock Shilling and beat the keeper for the game-winning goal and a 2-1 advantage.
The match went to halftime at 2-1, but the Raiders came out in the second half on their front foot. Logan Andryk sent a free kick into the box just over two minutes after the break and junior Michael Skow headed in his first goal of the season.
Shilling nabbed a goal of his own in the 65th minute, as a corner kick was improperly cleared near the six-yard box and he pounced on a loose ball.
Logan Andryk capped the scoring in the 79th minute when he made a run down the center of the field and unleashed a low, driven shot from just outside the penalty area. His shot snuck in the near post and made it 5-1.
MSOE outshot the Sabres 27-10 in the match and forced 13 of the game's 21 corner kicks. Senior keeper Garrett Farin made six saves in the match for the win. He came up big with back-to-back sprawling saves during a contentious patch with Marian pushing for a goal. The visitors came away with several shots and three-straight corner kicks, but nothing more.
Sophomore Sean Stelter relieved Farin in the 76th minute, but was not called on to make a save. MU's keeper, Bryce Woldt, stopped 12 shots in the match.
The Raiders continue the early portion of their conference schedule Tuesday, hitting the road to play at Rockford.
