Box Score AURORA, Ill. - The MSOE women's basketball team posted its 13th win of the season with a 67-51 victory over Aurora Saturday afternoon at Thornton Gymnasium.
The Raiders' (13-5, 9-4 NACC) victory total is tied for the second-most in a season in school history, while they also secured a season sweep of the Spartans (5-14, 5-9 NACC) in the process.
Sophomores Shayland Reardon and Holly Denfeld led the charge, as Reardon scored 20 points in the game. Denfeld shot 9-of-12 from the field on her way to 19 points. Sophomore Margaret Pugh hit three 3-pointers and chipped in 13 points.
Junior Megan Kroll had a strong all-around game with six points, 10 rebounds and five assists. She was also one of four MSOE with two steals.
Shannon Koski scored 16 points for Aurora, while Bethany Dorrington finished with 13.
The teams were separated by just three points near the midway point of the opening half, with the Raiders holding a 19-16 advantage. The visitors then rattled off a 12-0 run to make their lead 31-16 on a Denfeld layup with 5:28 remaining in the half.
MSOE never looked back in the game, turning up the defense late to hold the Spartans without a field goal over the final 7:21 of regulation and close out the victory. The drought allowed the Red & White to end the game on a 9-3 run and post a game-high 16-point lead at the buzzer.
The Raiders shot an efficient 45.8 percent from the field and committed just 13 turnovers. Meanwhile, Aurora was held to 38.3 percent shooting and was forced into 19 turnovers.
MSOE returns to the court Wednesday at Lakeland.
