Box Score MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team was swept in three sets by Benedictine Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (9-12, 0-6 NACC) were only outscored 46-43.5 and had just one less kill than the Eagles (9-11, 4-1 NACC), but could not overcome the visitor's efficiency in a 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 loss.
Junior Rahcel Lynde finished with a team-high nine kills for MSOE, while freshman Hannah Pekarek added seven.
BenU's Beckie Whitmarsh was the lone player in the match with double-digit kills, finishing with 10.
In the opening set, the Eagles used runs of 6-0 and 4-0 to erase a 7-5 deficit and jump ahead 15-11. The Raiders would pull back within two at 19-17, but Benedictine closed out the set on a 6-1 run. BenU then used an early 5-0 run to take control of the second set, before slowly pulling away and closing out the game with three-straight points.
MSOE fought back and used a run of its own to seize control of the third frame. It broke a 6-6 tie with a 7-1 run to pull ahead 13-7. The Eagles rattled off five-straight points, but the home team answered with back-to-back scored to maintain a 15-12 advantage. Unfortunately, Benedictine went on an extended 12-3 run and never looked back.
Kills in the match were 35-34 in favor of BenU, but it hit over .200 in each of the three sets and finished at .212 for the match. On the other end, the Raiders attacked at a .123 clip, but had to work around 11 service errors in the match, compared to just three by Benedictine.
The Raiders return to the court Tuesday, hosting Rockford.
