Box Score MILWAUKEE – Senior Aly Loepfe headed in a cross from junior Kait Riley in the 85th minute to send the MSOE women's soccer team past Edgewood 1-0 Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
The Raiders (8-6, 4-2 NACC) outshot the Eagles (6-7, 3-4 NACC) 25-3 in defeating them in the regular season for the second-straight season.
Despite the lopsided stats, it wasn't until Loepfe's header that the game was decided. Riley was working on a defender with the ball out wide when she sent a cross to the middle of the six-yard box. The 6-foot Loepfe outleapt the completion and headed the ball into the net for her third game-winner of the season.
The goal was a culmination of a dominant performance, where 13 shots were sent on frame. Sabelle Seabrook was called on to make 12 saves and keep the Eagles in the match.
MSOE outshot Edgewood 14-1 in the first half, generating a number of strong scoring opportunities. In the 12th minute, Sara Travia weaved through the defense and had her shot deflected off a defender and then the cross bar.
Then, just three minutes later, sophomore Kelsey Hailey bent a free kick from the near side at the far post, where a defender header the ball away from the otherwise open goal.
Sophomore Mary McFee was not untested in the match, making two saves. It was a point-blank save on a 1v1 in the seventh minute that kept the game scoreless and sent her towards her first shutout of the season.
Travia finished with a team-high five shots on the night, including three on goal, while Loepfe put all three of her shots on frame.
The Raiders return to the field Saturday, hosting Benedictine.
