Travia Nets Golden Goal to Sink Benedictine

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Junior Sara Travia netted an unassisted goal in the fourth minute of double overtime to propel the MSOE women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Benedictine Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (9-6, 5-2 NACC) won their fourth-straight conference game despite heroics by the Eagles (7-7-1, 4-3 NACC) late in regulation to force the extra period.

Senior Natalie Gayner netted an early goal for MSOE, to give the home team a 1-0 lead in just the 11th minute.

The lead would hold for much of regulation, as the Raiders held a decisive 17-10 shot advantage, including 12-5 in the second half.

Jackie Elzakhem would provide the late-game sparts for the visiting Eagles, scoring the equalizer just as the clocked ticked into the 90th minute.

MSOE would have the upperhand in the extra time, taking all three shots in the first period and holding a 3-1 shot advantage in the final overtime period, culminating in Travia's game-winner.

For the match, the Raiders outshot BenU 23-11, with 12 shots on goal to two for the visitors, and forged a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Mary McFee made one save in goal to secure the win.

The Raiders return to the field Wednesday, playing at Lakeland.
