Box Score MILWAUKEE – Junior Sara Travia scored five goals and assisted on another to highlight a 12-0 win by the MSOE women's soccer team over Alverno Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders (6-5, 2-2 NACC) scored five times in the first half led by a Travia hat trick and rolled past the Inferno (1-8, 0-4 NACC) by netting seven more scores after the intermission.
Junior Ally Brehm also scored twice, while six different players scored for MSOE.
Travia opened the scoring with a pair of goals and, after sophomore Melina Lynn netted her second goal of the season, she completed her hat trick in just 1:46 later in the 42nd minute.
An own goal made it 5-0 at the break.
Travia opened the scoring in the second half just 1:20 into the period. Brehm scored her first goal in the 60th minute, then Travia set up junior Erika Spanbauer's goal at 65:01. Travia then would finish her day with her fifth goal to make it 9-0 1:48 after Spanbauer.
The goals continued to come for the Raiders, as they struck three times in the final 10 minutes. Sophomore Rachael Griffin netted a goal off an assist from sophomore Kayla Thilges in the 83rd minute and Thilges struck for her own goal in the 87th minute.
Brehm then finished the game off just over 90 seconds from the final horn.
MSOE outshot the Inferno 45-1 in the match, sending 29 of those shots on goal. The team's 12 goals are its most since Sept. 24, 2011, in a 17-0 win against Rockford. That was also the last time a Red & White player scored five times in a game, when Jessica Axt set a league record with seven goals.
All four goalkeepers on the roster played, with sophomore Mary McFee getting the win when she exited with a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Junior Sydney Stephens saved the only Alverno shot in the match as she closed out the opening half. Senior Margot Giesey and junior Haley Anderson split the second half and were untested.
The Raiders also retained the Red Rivalry Cup with the victory, the trophy awarded to the annual winner in the MSOE/Alverno showdown.
