Raiders Down Bearcats for First Win, 74-61

Box Score

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Austin Stueck posted a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead the MSOE men's basketball team to a 74-61 victory over Baruch in the consolation game of the Marlin Tip-Off Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Batten Center.

The Raiders (1-2) led for the final 28-plus minutes, and by as many as 19, in downing the Bearcats (2-3), an NCAA Tournament and 21-win team last season. With the win, MSOE claims third place at the tournament.

Stueck posted his eighth-straight 20-point game dating back to last season and posted his first double-double since Jan. 17, 2013. Junior Collin Seubert scored 15 points, while senior Dylan Jones and freshman Matthew Kirmse scored eight points apiece off the bench.

Baruch put three players in double-figures, led by 14 points apiece from Raymond De La Cruz and Doyan Isaac. Chimaechi Ekekeugbor added 12 points.

The opening of the game was back-and-forth before a Jones layup evened the game at 18-18 at the 8:57 mark of the first half. Stueck followed with back-to-back baskets and the Raiders never looked back. They closed the first half on a 7-1 run to take a 34-24 lead into the break.

In the second half, MSOE built its lead as high as 19 at 72-53 on a pair of Seubert free throws with 2:41 remaining.

The Raiders posted their best shooting game of the early season, finishing 45.3 percent from the field and 9-of-26 from three-point range. They also converted on an impressive 17-of-20 from the free throw line.

Baruch shot 42 percent in the game, making 6-of-16 three-point attempts, and hit on just 13-of-20 from the charity stripe.

Stueck moved past Adam Lewis (1999-03) into fifth place on MSOE's all-time scoring charts with 1,432 points.

The Raiders return to the court after Thanksgiving, playing at Wisconsin Lutheran in their NACC opener next Saturday.
