Box Score MILWAUKEE - The MSOE women's basketball put together an extended 30-5 run to end the first half and start the second in rolling past Dominican 67-44 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (19-5, 15-4 NACC) trounced the Stars (1-23, 0-19 NACC) for their school-record seventh-straight win, equaling the standard set by this team Dec. 6-29 of this season.
The win also secures MSOE no worse than the third seed in next weekend's NACC Tournament. They know they will have a home quarterfinal game on Saturday, Feb. 21, but the time and opponent are yet to be determined.
Sophomore Holly Denfeld led the way with 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals in just 24 minutes. Junior Megan Kroll had 13 points and senior Bre Strong finished with eight points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals on Senior Day.
Jasmyn Hardin led Dominican with 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Danielle McGruder added 10 points off the bench.
The Raiders took a little while to get going and trailed the Stars 16-14 just past the midway point of the first half. The home team then started to click on both ends of the floor, going on a 30-5 run to overtake DU and put the game out of reach.
The Red & White closed the first half on a 22-5 run for a 36-21 lead at the break. It then opened the second half with the first eight points to take a 44-21 lead less than three minutes into the half. The team would build its lead as high as 27 in the final minutes.
MSOE shot 43.9 percent for the game, but did well to shut down the Stars offense. They shot just 35.8 points in the game, turning the ball over 20 times. The Raiders converted those miscues into 29 points on the other end.
The regular season comes to an end Tuesday, as MSOE hits the road to take on Wisconsin Lutheran.
