Raiders Falter at Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's basketball team shot under 30 percent for much of the game before finishing strong in a 75-55 defeat to Wisconsin Lutheran Tuesday evening at The WLC Recreation Complex.

The Raiders (19-6, 15-5 NACC) shot just 33.8 percent in the game, while the homestanding Warriors (20-4, 18-2 NACC) shot 50 percent in the game. With the loss, MSOE secured the No. 3 seed in the NACC Tournament and will host No. 6 Edgewood in the tournament quarterfinals Saturday at 7 p.m.

Junior Megan Kroll scored 14 points as the lone Red & White player in double-figures. Sophomore Shaylan Reardon added nine points and sophomore Holly Denfeld finished with eight.

WLC put five players in double-figures, led by Christel Frey's 18 points. Kristin Schulz had 14 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots in the game. Caitlin Knueppel and Maggie Gartner had 12 points apiece and Karisa Pederson tallied 11.

The Warriors jumped out to an early lead and held a 17-10 advantage just under eight minutes into the game. They then broke the game open with a 30-7 run over the final 12-plus minutes of the first half to take a 37-17 lead into the break.

The Raiders went out fighting down to the wire, cutting a 36-point deficit with just under eight minutes to play to the final 20-point margin with a 21-5 run. The held the home team without a field goal over the final 9:07 of the game.

MSOE struggled shooting the ball, adding an uncharacteristic 47.1 percent clip from the free throw line. The team turned the ball over just 11 times in the game, while forcing Wisconsin Lutheran into 18. The Warriors used their size to forge a 49-31 rebounding advantage and block nine shots in the game.
